It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our friend and fellow reenactor, Private Tim Thurber of Lt. Trevet’s Continental Marines. Tim was more than just a steady presence in the ranks—he was a cornerstone of our community, a man whose quiet humor, thoughtful spirit, and love of history brought depth and warmth to every encampment.
Tim had a lifelong passion for learning and sharing knowledge. As an educator, he devoted himself to helping others discover the joy of understanding the past and the world around them. That same spirit carried into his reenacting—he approached each event not only as a chance to portray history, but to connect people to it. Whether explaining the life of a Continental Marine to a curious visitor or sharing a book recommendation around the campfire, Tim’s enthusiasm was contagious.
Beyond the field, he was a man who found joy in simple things—good conversation, a strong cup of coffee, family, and a bit of grog. He had a gift for making those around him feel welcome, and for reminding us all that camaraderie and curiosity are at the heart of what we do.
While his tent will be empty at our next muster, his presence will be felt in every story told, every laugh shared, and every salute given in his honor. We will miss him deeply—but we are grateful for the time, friendship, and history he shared with us.
Fair winds and following seas, Tim.
